Course description

This webinar will teach valuable HMDA skills, whether you are new to HMDA or want to brush up on your skills. You will find this particularly valuable if your institution is a new HMDA reporter. You will learn information that will get you started, explaining what resources to use and where to find them, what the regulatory terms and language actually mean, and how to fight your way through the thicket of HMDA concepts to become comfortable with reporting transactions. Unlike many other regulations, HMDA has layers of definitions and concepts that must work together so that you can determine which transactions are reported and what you must report. HMDA compliance requires decisions to be made on individual loans, including those complicated business purpose transactions. Not all loans or lines in a product line will be HMDA reportable.

In this webinar, we will review the requirements, definitions, and concepts themselves, and how to deal with the trickiest definitions and topics, including what not to do. Some of the topics covered will be:

· Making sure your institution is now a reporter (closed and/or open-end), including how to find the current list of MSAs and what transactions to count toward the thresholds;

· What are reportable applications and how best to define them;

· What institutions are covered by the partial exemption and what it means;

· What tools should you use, where to find them, and how to use them;

· Understanding key HMDA definitions and how to apply them;

· What are the “comments” and how to find and use them – comments are a crucial part of HMDA compliance;

· What to report – understanding the lending process at your institution

· Critical topics such as the definition of dwelling, what is temporary financing, and many more.

You will come away with a solid understanding of the “HMDA thought process”, with core skills that will give you confidence in dealing with this important regulation and a solid understanding of what you must report.

This webinar will be of value to anyone with a need to understand HMDA, whether working in compliance, operations, lending, risk management or internal and external audit. About the speaker
